Magento eCommerce

By Ky Nguyen in Tech, ecommerce, on May 12th, 2009 | 8 Comments

I’ve been searching through the internet for a good eCommerce system that will help us to bring a best solution of eCommerce on the Web for our customers. If you google “ecommerce software”, you will see there are a lot of them on the web and people are using them for long time, but the questions always on my mind are “What is the best one? Which one is most suitable for customer needs, for shops that have various of sizes, various of product types? Which one has lower cost but provides the best solution for payment, shipping, and many things relating to eCommerce? And the biggest question, which one has the longest future of development?”.

Then I went through a lot of reviews, comparison of different eCommerce softwares, such as Zen Cart, X-Cart, OSCommerce, Virtual Mart, and Magento, and found out that there was one of them growing up very fast in the last 1 year. I think you know which one I’m going to say. Yes, you’re right. It’s Magento. A lot of reviews gave positive points to Magento and almost questions in my mind were answered with that system. Lets go through some of its feature:

  • Flexible Coupons (pricing rules) with ability to restrict to stores, customer groups, time period, products, and categories. For example: Percent Discount | Fixed Amount Discount | Free Shipping | Buy x, get y free. | Buy x, get y with percent or fixed amount discount | Buy x, get free shipping on order | Buy x, get percent discount | Buy x, get fixed amount discount.
  • Catalog Promotional Pricing by percentage or fixed amount with ability to restrict to stores, categories, products
  • Built in popular payment methods: Paypal, Google Checkout, Authorize.net, and a lot of more extensions from Magento Developer Community
  • Built in shipping methods: FedEx, UPS, Free shipping, Table rate, etc…
  • Multi-Tier Pricing for quantity discounts
  • Customer Group-specific pricing and group-specific tier pricing
  • Landing Page Tool for Campaigns
  • Search Engine Friendly URL’s
  • URL Rewrites
  • Recently Viewed Products
  • Recently Compared Items
  • New Items Promotional Tool
  • Up-sells in Shopping Cart
  • Cross-sells on product pages
  • Send to a Friend for all visitors, or registered users only
  • Send Wishlist to a Friend by Email or RSS
  • RSS Feeds for New Products, New Specials and New Tags
  • Auto-generated Site Map
  • Google Site Map
  • Polls
  • Newsletter Management
  • Multi-Lingual support
  • Smooth checkout process that brings the easiest way for customers to purchase products.
  • and lots more…

When comparing to other eCommerce softwares, no one has such a rich features list as same as Magento. And the fact is Magento is growing very quickly. Starting from mid-2007, Magento has just announced that it gained 600,000+ downloads and it’s proved that Magento is the fastest growing Open Source eCommerce software in the market. Please have a look at Google Trend chart:

As you can see, Magento is growing and has gained the market share as same as OSCommerce, and I believe that in near future, Magento will soon become the top solution for eCommerce in the market.

With all researchs I have done, Magento has been chosen as the top solution for Kytesoft’s customers who need an eCommerce system to grow their businesses on internet.
